We offer three HSR Refresher Training Courses in the areas of Plant, Work-related Violence, and Work-related Stress, aligned with WorkSafe Victoria guidance.

HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Plant
This WorkSafe approved HSR Refresher training course will assist the understanding of HSRs and Deputy HSRs in how they can effectively use their powers when participating in the identification, prevention and control of the risks associated with Plant (Machinery and Equipment).
Learning outcomes
During this program you will refresh your knowledge of:
- The value of HSRs to workplace safety
- The importance of consultation
- Hazards and risk management, including how to determine levels of risk and controls
- Issue resolution processes
- Legal framework and the OHS Act 2004
- What is reasonably practicable
- Provisional Improvement Notices
- The role of inspectors
HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Work related violence
This WorkSafe approved Refresher training course will assist HSRs' and Deputy HSRs' understanding of how they can effectively use their powers when participating in the identification, prevention and control of the risks associated with work related violence.
Learning outcomes
During this course you will increase your knowledge of:
- HSR powers and entitlements
- Risk management
- The importance of hazard and incident reporting
- Effective consultation
- Work related violence
- Incident investigation and management
HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Work related stress
This WorkSafe approved Refresher training course will assist HSRs' and Deputy HSRs' understanding of how they can effectively use their powers when participating in the identification, prevention and control of the risks associated with work-related stress.
Learning outcomes
During this course you will increase your knowledge of:
- Elements of OHS legislative framework (incl. summary of OHS Act 2004)
- Risk management (incl. determining risk levels and controls)
- Consultation and issue resolution
- HSRs and work-related stress issues.
Entitlement
Under the OHS Act 2004 (Section 67) all elected HSRs and deputy HSRs are entitled to attend an annual HSR Refresher OHS training course and (in consultation with their employer) choose the course they wish to attend.
This WorkSafe approved HSR Refresher course is an opportunity to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge. The HSR Refresher OHS Training Courses, although primarily developed for HSRs and Deputy HSRs are also relevant for managers, supervisors, Health and Safety Committee members and any other employee who has an interest in learning about and promoting health and safety in the workplace.
The HSR Refresher OHS Training Courses are interactive; activity based and provide an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of workplace hazards.
HSR Refresher OHS Training Course Prerequisites
HSRs and Deputy HSRs attending a HSR Refresher OHS Training Course must have completed the HSR Initial OHS Training Course.
HSR Refresher OHS Training Course Delivery Method
The HSR Refresher OHS Training Courses are delivered face-to-face over 1 day. There is a limit of 20 participants per training session. Each participant will receive:
- Comprehensive HSR Refresher OHS Training Course manual
- Resources that can be used back in the workplace.
Participants will also receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the 1-day course.
Requirements: It's advisable that you have completed the Health and Safety Representative's Initial Occupational Health and Safety training before undertaking this Refresher Course.
