TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck

Course Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

This unit requires a person operating a forklift truck to:

  • plan for the work/task
  • prepare for the work/task
  • perform work/task
  • pack up.
 

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of commencement.
  • Students pursuing the course must possess the necessary physical abilities and manual handling skills required to perform various tasks involved in the training.
  • Applicants must provide 100 points of Identification at the time of enrolment.
  • All applicants must complete a LLND assessment as required by regulatory authorities. LLND assessments are used to determine required language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy levels to undertake this course.
  • This unit will require participants to apply, and practice acquired skills across an organisation, have access to different occupational groups and circumstances, and to base their assessment solutions in a workplace environment, it is strongly recommended that participants are employed or otherwise engaged in a workplace related role.
  • Applicants are required to provide their USI at the time of enrolment – A USI is a 10-character string unique to students which is needed anytime students undertake nationally recognised training, such as applying into this program. Course Duration and delivery

The course will be delivered as face-to-face as a (2) two-day course consisting of 16 hours in total, which includes theory and practical assessment utilising ECB’s workbooks, and the national mandated assessment as approved by WorkSafe. ECB have determined the duration of 16 hours through consultation with industry to ensure each student is provided the opportunity to fully absorb the required knowledge and to develop the required skills.

Assessment Approach

Each unit is delivered and assessed as a standalone module.

Assessment will be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced by individuals in the workplace.

 The assessment consists of several assessment tasks to be undertaken in the ECB premises. The competency will be established based on evidence collected through a diverse range of assessment methods, including questions and answers, written assessment tasks (e.g. discussion, exercise, plant and equipment logbook hours, and report), case studies/scenarios, presentations and projects and the national mandated assessments as approved by WorkSafe.
